02-10-04 - YAHOO Financial News, "TranTech Selects ActiveMedia Software To Support Rich Media DAM Solutions at Federal Agencies."

INSCI and TranTech team up to address the $2 billion rich media content market in DOD and civilian agencies

WESTBOROUGH, Mass., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- INSCI Corp., a leading provider of enterprise content management software, today announced its award-winning ActiveMedia(TM) digital asset management (DAM) software has been selected by TranTech, Inc., a leading system integration and IT services provider, as a key software application platform for the development of rich media solutions for the federal government.

TranTech was recently awarded a $9 million initial Visual Information Management Systems (VIMS) contract from the American Forces Information Service (AFIS), a unit of the Office of the Secretary of Defense. With a potential value of $100 million, VIMS make TranTech one of the most successful providers of DAM solutions in the federal market.

Other federal agencies that need to acquire, manage and distribute time- based and unstructured content such as video, surveillance imagery, international TV broadcasts, and high resolution images can purchase ActiveMedia software directly through the DISA/Encore contract or the GSA Schedule from TranTech. Both entities will greatly reduce the time and expense required by agencies to procure advanced digital asset management solutions.

The United States government is the world's largest producer and consumer of video and time- based media content.

"INSCI's ActiveMedia Platform is a cornerstone of our rich media solutions practice," said George Kolesar, TranTech senior vice president for enterprise solutions. "ActiveMedia is a powerful and cost-effective media management platform. Its XML/SOAP-based architecture and object-based metadata model allow us to prototype and deploy rich media solutions quickly. Its powerful and mature APIs give us the flexibility to customize and extend system capabilities in real time as mission or agency requirements evolve."

Time-based and unstructured content are broadly used by military and intelligence agencies to create high levels of efficiency between the Armed Services, as well as enabling mission planners to access, integrate and secure visual information acquired from field operations.

Similarly, civilian agencies such as the CDC, NASA, FEMA, NIH, and NOAA rely increasingly on distributed digital video and audio repositories to enhance the effectiveness of their public policy communication strategies and increase the reach and personalization of video-based training and archival information.

ActiveMedia was recently named 2004 DAM product of the year by analyst and research firm Frost & Sullivan. "Our research shows that government agencies are being overwhelmed by the rapidly growing volume of unstructured data, visual content and digital assets," said Mukul Krishna, senior industry analyst/team leader for Frost and Sullivan. "It is ideally suited for integrating time-based content into decision support, personnel training, and combat readiness applications.

"The federal government's decision to utilize best-of-breed commercial off-the-shelf technologies into the visual information management and other rich media solutions will ensure that the growing volume of time based content will be efficiently acquired, managed, delivered."

"We're tremendously excited to be working with a company that has been consistently recognized for its entrepreneurial and technical excellence," said Henry F. Nelson, President and CEO of INSCI. "TranTech's record for delivering powerful content management solutions to the federal government is unmatched. Our partnership gives us an effective sales channel into the federal market. Moreover, our ability to leverage TranTech's DISA/Encore contract and GSA Schedule will accelerate the selection of the ActiveMedia platform in government procurements."

In addition to its core repository and clearing house responsibilities, TranTech will utilize ActiveMedia as a general purpose media services engine to enable agencies to deliver media on demand, provide real time "in-field" decision support, and empower multi-agency web-based repositories for just-in- time learning and intelligence sharing. ActiveMedia joins a growing suite of advanced visual information management technologies supported by TranTech.
